Error code questions
No code on the display? Try the quick troubleshooter
What does an appliance error code mean?
An error code is the appliance’s control board telling you which system it detected a problem in, such as water fill, draining, heating, the door lock or a sensor. It points to where to look, not always to the exact failed part, which is why I test before replacing anything.
Can I clear an appliance error code myself?
Sometimes. Many codes come from simple things like a closed water valve, a clogged filter or a door that isn’t latched, and each code page lists the safe check the manufacturer recommends. If the code comes back after that, the appliance needs a diagnosis.
Where do your error code meanings come from?
From each manufacturer’s own support pages, owner’s manuals and tech sheets, checked on October 18, 2026. Every page lists its sources. I left out any code I couldn’t confirm, and meanings can vary by model, so your manual has the final word.
How much does it cost to fix an appliance showing an error code?
My service call is $65 ($125 for stacked washer and dryer units), and it’s waived when you approve the repair. I give you an exact price for parts and labor before any work starts.
