What your LG refrigerator is telling you

Codes from LG’s US refrigerator help library. Depending on the model, a code may start or end with ‘Er’, ‘E’ or ‘r’ (for example ‘Er FF’). For any of these codes, LG first suggests resetting the refrigerator (unplug it for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in); if the code persists, call me.

That code isn’t on this list. It may be specific to your model, so call or text me at (480) 292-4746 with the code and model number.

FF

There is an issue with the freezer fan. Frost or ice buildup blocking the fan can cause it.

Try this first: Manually defrost: move food to a cooler, unplug the refrigerator, leave both doors open for at least 8 hours with towels down to catch water, then dry the inside and plug it back in. It can take 24 to 48 hours to get back to normal temperature. Afterward, make sure the vents are not blocked, the doors close fully and the unit is level.

If you see frost on the freezer walls, the leveling and door alignment may need adjusting.

rF

There is an abnormality with the refrigerator-section fan motor. Frost buildup may be the cause.

Try this first: Manually defrost: move food to a cooler, unplug the refrigerator, leave the doors open for at least 8 hours with towels down, then dry the inside, plug it back in and allow 24 to 48 hours to cool. If the code returns, call me.

When to call me

If the safe check doesn’t clear the code, or the same code keeps coming back, the refrigerator needs a real diagnosis. Error codes point to the system that failed, not always the exact part, so I test before I replace anything.

Never open panels, bypass a safety switch or work on gas or wiring yourself. Unplug the appliance or turn off its breaker if you smell burning or see water near electrical parts.

Upfront pricing

$65

Service call, waived when you approve the repair. You get an exact price before any work starts.

Stacked washer and dryer units have a $125 service call, also waived with the repair.

Where These Codes Come From

I checked every code on this page against LG’s own documentation on October 18, 2026, and left out any code I couldn’t confirm there. Meanings can differ between models and model years, so your owner’s manual or the tech sheet inside your refrigerator has the final word for your exact model.
