What your GE refrigerator is telling you

Codes shown on GE, GE Profile and Café refrigerators with electronic dispenser controls (a flashing green code, usually with a beep). GE lists only the codes most likely to be resolved without service; others require a technician.

That code isn’t on this list. It may be specific to your model, so call or text me at (480) 292-4746 with the code and model number.

FF

The freezer temperature is rising too high; check frozen food for thawing.

Try this first: Disconnecting power for a minute or two sometimes clears the code; if not, call me.

PF

Power to the refrigerator was interrupted.

CI

Check the ice maker for proper operation.

dE

The defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours.

Try this first: Disconnecting power for a minute or two sometimes clears the code; if not, call me.

Lowercase ‘dE’. Uppercase ‘DE’ means Demo mode (separate entry).

DE

Demo mode: lights and controls work but the cooling system is disabled.

Try this first: Unplug the refrigerator for a minute or two, then plug it back in. If DE still shows, call me with the model number.

Uppercase ‘DE’. Lowercase ‘dE’ is a defrost fault.

CC

The refrigerator temperature is incorrect; check the temperature controls.

Try this first: Check the temperature control settings.

tC

TurboCool is on. This is a normal setting indicator, not an error (it may look like EC).

Normal function indicator, not a fault.

tF

TurboFreeze is on. This is a normal setting indicator, not an error (it may look like EF).

Normal function indicator, not a fault.

When to call me

If the safe check doesn’t clear the code, or the same code keeps coming back, the refrigerator needs a real diagnosis. Error codes point to the system that failed, not always the exact part, so I test before I replace anything.

Never open panels, bypass a safety switch or work on gas or wiring yourself. Unplug the appliance or turn off its breaker if you smell burning or see water near electrical parts.

Upfront pricing

$65

Service call, waived when you approve the repair. You get an exact price before any work starts.

Stacked washer and dryer units have a $125 service call, also waived with the repair.

Where These Codes Come From

I checked every code on this page against GE’s own documentation on October 18, 2026, and left out any code I couldn’t confirm there. Meanings can differ between models and model years, so your owner’s manual or the tech sheet inside your refrigerator has the final word for your exact model.
