What your Samsung washer is telling you
Applies to Samsung top-load and front-load washers with a digital display; Samsung lists several alternate display forms for each code (e.g. 4C/4E/nF), and older models show the same errors as combinations of blinking lights. A few codes (3E, dC, BE2/8E2) mean different things on different models, so check the owner’s manual for the specific model.
That code isn’t on this list. It may be specific to your model, so call or text me at (480) 292-4746 with the code and model number.
LC
Water level or leakage error: moisture is detected somewhere it shouldn’t be, or there is a problem with the sensor itself.
Also shown as LE, 1E, 1C, LC1, 1 1C, 1 LC
Try this first: Look for a leak, make sure the supply and drain hoses behind the washer aren’t kinked, and run an empty cycle with no detergent to check for excess suds (too much or non-HE detergent); repeat empty cycles until no suds remain.
4C
Not filling error: water is not entering the washer correctly.
Also shown as 4E, nF, 1 4C
Try this first: Make sure the hot and cold hoses go to the matching inlets and aren’t kinked, the water valves are fully open, and the drain hose is inserted 6 to 8 inches into the drain pipe; then unplug the washer (or switch off its breaker) for 1 minute and try again.
Samsung says not to use Flood Safe hoses. Missing the hot water hookup can trigger this even on cycles labeled Cold.
4C2
Hot/cold error: the water from the cold supply is extremely hot because the hot and cold supply hoses are swapped.
Also shown as 4E2, CE, 14C2, nF1
Try this first: Connect the cold supply to the cold inlet and the hot supply to the hot inlet (usually blue to blue, red to red).
Samsung says this code does not mean service is needed.
5C
No drain error: water is not draining from the washer at the correct speed, or at all.
Also shown as nd, 5E, SE, SC, 1 5C
Samsung links to a separate guide on a washer that won’t drain.
OE
Overflow error: there is too much water in the washer.
Also shown as 0E, OC, 0C, 1 OC, 1 0C
Samsung links to a separate guide for this error.
E2
Jammed button error: a button on the control panel is detected as stuck or continuously pressed.
Also shown as bE2, 6E2
Try this first: Turn the washer off, then touch each button individually, working it back and forth to reach all edges before releasing.
On some models BE2 (8E2) is a jammed button error; on others it is a MEMS sensor error. Check the model’s manual.
9C1
Voltage error: there is an irregularity in the electrical power reaching the washer; PF (power failure) also appears if power was lost before the washer turned itself off, e.g. an outage, being unplugged or a tripped breaker.
Also shown as 9C2, PF, 2E, 9E1, 9E2, UC, 19C1, 19C2
Try this first: Confirm the washer is on its own circuit and is not plugged into an extension cord.
On some models 3E is also a voltage error; on others it is a motor error.
dE
Door error: the door is not detected as closed and locked.
Also shown as dS, d5, FL, LO, L0, dE1, dE2, dC1, dL, 1 dC, 1dC4, 1dC1
Try this first: Make sure nothing is caught in the door, the latch is secure and the door is fully closed.
On some models dC is a door error and on others an unbalanced load error. This code can also show when Child Lock is on and there is water in the tub. On FlexWash models, 1dC4 means the rubber button next to the upper washer’s latch is missing.
SDC
Detergent drawer error: the detergent drawer is not completely closed.
Also shown as 5DC
Try this first: Push the drawer in until it clicks.
SUd
Excessive suds: the washer has detected too many suds and is pausing to let them die down, after which the cycle continues on its own.
Also shown as 5UD, Sd, 5d, SUdS, 5Ud5
Try this first: Use the correct amount of HE detergent.
Samsung says this is caused by detergent use and does not mean service is needed.
ddC
Add Door error: the small Add Door is not detected as closed and locked.
Also shown as dC3
Try this first: Make sure nothing is caught in the Add Door and that it is fully closed and latched.
Ub
Unbalanced load error: the load is unbalanced in the tub and the washer can’t finish the cycle.
Also shown as U6, UE, 1 Ub, 1U6
Try this first: Untangle and rearrange the laundry so it is evenly spread, close the door and press Start.
On some models dC also means unbalanced load (on others it is a door error).
Ur
Unbalanced Load Retry: the washer is adding water and rebalancing the load before trying to spin again, which makes the cycle longer.
Samsung says Ur does not mean there is a problem with the washer.
Cb
Calibration mode: the washer is recalibrating its weight detection, turning the drum back and forth for 1 to 3 minutes before ending on its own.
Also shown as C6
Try this first: Calibration only works with the washer empty; remove anything inside and run it again.
Not an error.
dn
The washer is downloading a software update; the controls won’t respond until it finishes (about 15 minutes).
Try this first: Keep the washer powered on until the update completes.
If it shows for over 30 minutes with power and Wi-Fi working, Samsung says it needs service.
CL
Child Lock: on newer models, shows when Child Lock has drained water from the tub after the door was opened with water at an unsafe level.
Try this first: Turn the washer off and back on, or turn off Child Lock.
3C
Motor error.
Also shown as 3E, E3, 1 3C
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
On some models 3E is a voltage error instead of a motor error.
AE
Communication error.
Also shown as AC, AE6, AEb, AC6, ACb, AC4, AC3, AC5, AE8, AEB, AE4, AE5, 1AC6, 1 AC, AC7
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
tE
Temperature sensor error.
Also shown as tE1, tC
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
HE
Heater error.
Also shown as HC, HE1, Hr, 1 HC
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
8E
MEMS (vibration) sensor error.
Also shown as BE, 8E1, 8C, BC, 8C1, 8C2, BC1, BC2, 1 8C, 1 BC, 18C1, 1BC1, 18C2, 1BC2
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
Samsung lists 8E/BE as a vibration sensor error on some models. 8E2/BE2 can be a MEMS sensor error or a jammed button error depending on the model.
bE
Motor speed sensor error.
Also shown as 6E
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
BE2 and 6E2 (with a 2) are jammed button errors. Samsung also lists BE (capital B) under MEMS/vibration sensor errors, and b and B can look alike on the display, so confirm in the model’s manual.
PE
Clutch position error.
Also shown as PC
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
SF
System error.
Also shown as IE, 5F, SF1, SF2, SF3, 5F1, 5F2, 5F3, 1 SF
Try this first: Turn the washer off for 2 to 3 minutes, turn it back on and restart the cycle. If the code keeps coming back, call me.
When to call me
If the safe check doesn’t clear the code, or the same code keeps coming back, the washer needs a real diagnosis. Error codes point to the system that failed, not always the exact part, so I test before I replace anything.
Never open panels, bypass a safety switch or work on gas or wiring yourself. Unplug the appliance or turn off its breaker if you smell burning or see water near electrical parts.

Where These Codes Come From
I checked every code on this page against Samsung’s own documentation on October 18, 2026, and left out any code I couldn’t confirm there. Meanings can differ between models and model years, so your owner’s manual or the tech sheet inside your washer has the final word for your exact model.
