What your Bosch washer is telling you
Codes from Bosch’s US washer error-code page for Bosch 24-inch front-load washers (300/500/800 series); older models show E- or F-prefixed 2-digit codes and newer models show ‘E:xx’ with a suffix (e.g. E:36 / -10). For any other code Bosch says to switch the washer off and on, then unplug it for 30 seconds, and call me if it returns.
That code isn’t on this list. It may be specific to your model, so call or text me at (480) 292-4746 with the code and model number.
E:00 / -18
The drain pump is blocked.
Try this first: Clean the washer’s drain hose and/or drain pipe; if needed, clean the drain pump as described in the owner’s manual.
The display alternates between E:00 and -18.
E:00 / -23
There is water in the base of the washer and/or the washer is leaking.
Try this first: Turn off the water tap and call me.
The display alternates between E:00 and -23.
E:10 / -00
The pump for the intelligent dosing (i-Dos) system is blocked.
Also shown as E:10 / -10, E:10 / -20
Try this first: Put the washer in standby and clean the dosing pump unit as described in the owner’s manual; you can turn off intelligent dosing until it is fixed.
Only on models with intelligent dosing. Bosch groups -00, -10 and -20 suffixes under E:10.
E16
The door is not locked properly.
Also shown as E34, F16, F34
Try this first: Close the door until it clicks; check that nothing is caught between the door and the housing (an overfull drum can stop it closing), then restart the program.
E17
The filters in the water supply hose (or AquaStop hose) are blocked, or the water pressure is too low.
Also shown as F17, F29
Try this first: Turn off the tap, remove the hose from the tap and clean the filters with a small brush (do not put an AquaStop hose in water); reconnect, check for leaks, and turn the tap fully on.
The tap should deliver about 2.5 gallons (10 liters) per minute; if pressure is too low, Bosch says to contact a plumber.
E18
The drain hose is blocked or kinked.
Also shown as F18
Try this first: Make sure the drain hose is installed without kinks; with the washer off and unplugged, clean the drain hose and the drain pump as described in the owner’s manual (the water may be very hot).
E:30 / -10
Water supply problem: low water pressure, blocked inlet filters, faucet turned off, a kinked inlet hose, or a defective water-level sensing system.
Try this first: Make sure the faucet is on, the inlet hose is not kinked, and the inlet filters are clean; if it persists, wait about 5 minutes for draining to finish, switch the washer off and on, and call Bosch if the code returns.
May appear with a faucet icon.
E:30 / -20
Too much detergent, extra water added during the cycle, or a defective water valve (solenoid).
Try this first: Use less detergent next time and do not add water while the washer is running; Bosch suggests pouring 1 tablespoon of fabric softener in about 2 cups (0.5 L) of water into compartment II to reduce suds (not for outdoor wear, sportswear or down items).
If the water valve is defective, Bosch says this needs a technician.
E:30 / -80
Draining problem: blocked or kinked drain pipe or outlet hose, outlet hose installed too high or with an unsuitable extension, blocked drain pump, loose pump cap, or too much detergent.
Try this first: Clear and straighten the drain hose (installed no higher than 39 in./1 m, no unsuitable extensions); clean the drain pump per the owner’s manual and screw the pump cap fully in (handle vertical); use less detergent.
E32
An unbalanced load was detected; spin may be skipped or slowed and the washer will try to redistribute the laundry.
Also shown as F32
Try this first: Wash large and small items together; close zippers and buttons on pillow and duvet covers.
E33
Too much detergent foam was detected (too much or old detergent).
Also shown as F33
Try this first: Use less detergent, especially for lightly soiled loads; follow the dosing on the detergent package.
E:36 / -10
Draining problem: blocked or kinked drain pipe or outlet hose, outlet hose installed too high or with an unsuitable extension, blocked drain pump, loose pump cap, or too much detergent.
Try this first: Clear and straighten the drain hose (installed no higher than 39 in./1 m, no unsuitable extensions); clean the drain pump per the owner’s manual and screw the pump cap fully in (handle vertical); use less detergent.
E:36 / -25
The drain pump is blocked.
Also shown as E:36 / -26
Try this first: Clean the drain pump as described in your owner’s manual (water may be hot; switch off and unplug first).
Bosch lists E:36 -25 and -26 together.
E:38 / -25
The drain pump is blocked.
Also shown as E:38 / -26
Try this first: Clean the drum; if the code appears again, clean the drain pump as described in the owner’s manual.
Bosch lists E:38 -25 and -26 together.
E:60 / -2B
The laundry is unevenly distributed, which triggered unbalance detection and stopped the spin.
Try this first: Redistribute the laundry and mix large and small items.
E80
Fault in the motor drive circuit.
Bosch says this can only be fixed by an authorized technician.
E:92 / -01
Water pressure is low or the water inlet filters are blocked.
Try this first: Clean the filters in the water inlet if they are blocked.
H9E
Hot water supply problem: hot tap off, hot water hose kinked, hot water pressure too low, or the strainer in the supply hose clogged.
Try this first: Check the hot water hose is connected and the hot tap is on, remove any kink, and clean the strainers in the supply hose.
Shown with a water-tap icon.
H:32
The laundry is unevenly distributed, which triggered unbalance detection and stopped the spin.
Try this first: Redistribute the laundry and mix large and small items.
CL
Child Lock is on.
Try this first: See the owner’s manual for how to turn off Child Lock.
When to call me
If the safe check doesn’t clear the code, or the same code keeps coming back, the washer needs a real diagnosis. Error codes point to the system that failed, not always the exact part, so I test before I replace anything.
Never open panels, bypass a safety switch or work on gas or wiring yourself. Unplug the appliance or turn off its breaker if you smell burning or see water near electrical parts.
Upfront pricing
$65
Service call, waived when you approve the repair. You get an exact price before any work starts.
Stacked washer and dryer units have a $125 service call, also waived with the repair.
Where These Codes Come From
I checked every code on this page against Bosch’s own documentation on October 18, 2026, and left out any code I couldn’t confirm there. Meanings can differ between models and model years, so your owner’s manual or the tech sheet inside your washer has the final word for your exact model.
